5 Flare Sugar Free Gum

5-gum.jpgI enjoy a good stick of gum. In fact I’ll take spells where I’ll chew it constantly, all the way to making my jaws sore. I’m a bit OCD when it comes to things like that. ‘5 Flare’ by Wrigley caught my eye recently, so I grabbed a pack. Want a three word review? It’s cinnamon gum.

Longer version? 5 Flare is a really average stick of gum. With the special packaging, and the hideously over produced commercials, I was expecting something really intense; like Altoids Gum. Nope. 5 Flare is indistinguishable from Big Red, and that left me disappointed.

What did impress me was the longevity of the flavor. The unit of time to measure how long the flavor in 5 Flare lasts is hours, not minutes. This stuff will love you long time. Stays pretty soft as well. Thumbs up for that.

Packaging is interesting; very much reminding me of a package of cigarettes. When I first pulled out the package, my friend thought it was a small box of condoms. Before reading the box, I thought they were mints. Wrigley may want to work on that. Anyway, you get 15 sticks of individually wrapped sticks, at a charge of ten cents a piece. That is $1.50 for those of you who are not mathematically inclined. The Consumer’s Corner gives it a mild recommendation; it lasts awhile, but aside from that, there’s nothing special going on.

Nothing like good marketing. Interesting form of packaging for sure; hence, another sucker born every second is the bottom line with this product.

Perhaps… It’s twice the price of Big Red, but lasts four times as long. So it may be a better value for gum fans. I’ll let that decision be made by you Consumers.

I liked the old gum packaging much, much better. I hate the new one with a passion. I wish all gum companies would concentrate on the flavor of the gum, and not spend so much money on their fancy packaging, including the red foil surrounding the stick of gum. That simply costs the consumer more money. Forget the packaging! The flavor DOES NOT LAST LONG. I totally disagree with statements above that the flavor lasts long. I am very disappointed with this gum and I want the old gum back.

    AN AVID GUM-CHEWER.

I don’t really care for gum, I hardly ever chew it because of the reason that it does eventually get hard in your mouth and it doesn’t taste good after maybe 30 minutes. I really prefer mints, but when my friend offered me some Flare gum, I was confused when she handed me 1/2 of a stick. When I started to eat it I immediately opened my mouth and started panting as one would do when they taste hot soup without cooling it first. To me, 1/2 a stick is equivalent to a whole stick of Big Red. You may think this is contrary coming from someone who really doesn’t like gum, but I like to say I’m just picky. I have tried other flavors of this 5 gum and have taken a liking to Flare most. It does last longer than most gum and I am pleased that it doesn’t harden up and become gross like other gum. To me, I would buy it again.
