Miller Genuine Draft Light 64
Miller has made over their Miller Genuine Draft Light in an effort to go toe to toe with Michelob Ultra in the low carb beer market. It is a mere 64 calories compared to Michelob Ultra’s 95. I was eager to try this one out.
Miller Genuine Draft Light 64 has a slight corn malt aroma. The pour results in a vigorous head that dissipates to a thin film. The color, as pictured, is a pale yellow. The mouthfeel is very light bodied and a lot of carbonation. It has a corny sweetness to it, but there are no big “beer forward” attributes. It does, however, have more flavor to it than Michelob Ultra. I could drink quite a few of these beers in rapid succession and not get tired of the flavor because it is so light.
A friend of mine commented that Miller Genuine Draft Light 64 is “watered down”. I told him that I think they did an incredible job for what they were trying to accomplish in the low carb/calorie category. One suggestion that would not raise the caloric intake is to add a few more hops. The bitters would give it some more dimension instead of being a bit thin on flavor. Even though this beer lacks a bit of beer character, it has its place in the market. It would be perfect ice cold on a hot day and definitely fits the bill if you are looking to drink a refreshing light beer.
This beer is a bargain in terms of price. Genuine Draft is considered “premium” beer, while it’s competitor, Michelob Ultra, is considered “above premium”. A 6-pack of bottles was $4.99. Recommended!

It only has 2.9% alcohol. Utah only has 3.2% beer. What’s that tell you?

a woos beer!
April 5th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
I am drinking one right now. I am saddened that I have five more left in the fridge..that space could be occupied by something better.
April 8th, 2008 at 3:01 pm
Worst Beer ever!!! Miller really screwed this one up!!! Bring back my MGD Light please!!!!
April 24th, 2008 at 6:04 am
You people don’t make sense. Its a 64 calorie beer so it will NEVER be have a big % of alcohol and it will never taste like a 100 calorie light beer. What did you people expect? It is what it is… the best tasting *64* calorie beer there is. Name one better?
April 24th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Well said Shawn; Miller Genuine Draft Light 64 is targeting a specific audience; if you’re not in the audience you probably will not enjoy the product.
April 25th, 2008 at 5:51 am
It leaves a bitter taste in your mouth, but I probably will have it on occasion. Still prefer Michelob Ultra, much better taste.
April 28th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Miller should have taken a lesson from Coca-Cola who made one of the biggest marketing blunders of all times when they tried to change the formula of an established product. They had to come back with “Coca Cola Classic” to recover. This 64 thing should have been marketed with a new name because the original product (MGD Light) has been butchered beyond belief. It has angered me enough to not only switch beers, but to abandon all Miller products.

I think it is wonderful! I enjoy the amount of calories and the amount of alcohol it contains! We can go out for an evening with much less worry! Thanks Miller Brewing Company!

Because of medicines I now have to take, I had to switch to the 1/2% N.A. brews. Except for Claushalter(sp?) of Germany, they tasted plain awful. The MGD 64 actually tastes more like beer, and my body seems to tolerate a few at a time. So, great beer for certain pill poppers…
May 25th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
Seriously, didn’t Miller learn anything from coke’s mistake?
There is not reason to ‘remake’ a beverage we were all enjoying before!
The least Miller could have done was left MGDL alone, and released a new ’summer beer’. Hopefully this one ends up in the discount cart shortly, and we can go back to the good old thing…the real Miller Genuine Draft Light.
May 27th, 2008 at 7:43 am
I was an avid MGD Light fan until they switched to the 64. Then I noticed I could drink it all night and not even catch a buzz. So what’s the point of drinking beer if you can’t get even a slight buzz? I quit drinking it all together and switched to Bud Light.
Big Mistake selling that 64 crap in Wisconsin Miller! Of course they are marketing the hell out of it here in Wisconsin. Sooner or later they are going to learn their lesson.

I have yet to try the MGD 64 (I live in NC), but I am hoping soon (fingers crossed) that it will come to the southern states. I have another recommendation for an ultra-light beer: Becks Premium Light - it only has 64 calories and I love the taste!
June 18th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
I am a boater and I think this is the one of the best light beers out there. I can drink them all day in the hot sun without the calories. If you have ever been on the beach all day drinking then “This Miller is for You!” Thanks Miller PLEASE bring them out in 24 or 30 Packs soon.
June 19th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
This beer does exactly what it is designed to do, Offer a light taste with a reasonable alcohol content. For those of us who want to drink a 5-6% alcohol beer, this is not the one to buy. Thanks Miller
June 20th, 2008 at 10:50 am
I recently discovered MGDL 64. I enjoy it! While it certainly does not have the body of a full flavor beer, the 64 calories do not add to my body either!
June 20th, 2008 at 10:53 am
I recently tried the MGDL-64 after being deprived by a diet and was quite suprised by the flavor. I am very happy to have found a beer that is only 1 point on the Weight Watchers plan. It’s a beer you can drink as much as you want without gaining any weight!!!! Can’t wait for Miller to bring it out in cases!
June 20th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
We were truly disappointed. If Miller wanted to get into the low carb, low cal beers, why didn’t they just make an ultra light and leave our favorite beer alone. I think the choices should be out there, but MGD light was a beer that tasted good but yet was a few less calories and carbs. MGD 64 tastes like carbonated water with a little beer tasted infused. Not for us. We will be on the search for another beer.
June 27th, 2008 at 11:20 am
regarding the person who said they should take a lesson from coke; the only reason coke went to new coke and then back was because they wanted to stop using real suger and switch to corn syrup, it was not a marketing blunder but a planned ruse and you never knew the difference.
Yes this beer does not have a lot of flaver but what do you expect for 64 calories, you are not going to get a guinness.
June 28th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
This is perfect adult soda. Any real beer lover isn’t drinking Miller anyway, so this is perfect for beer-ish refreshment without the guilt of calories. If you want to raise the alcohol content of your afternoon, serve the MGDL with a shot of hard alcohol and continue to sip away at you refreshing MGDL!
June 30th, 2008 at 5:41 pm
Admin and Shawn said it all…the beer is not targeting beer drinkers that are not calorie concious. They are targeting folks that are watching their weight!
I drank MGD Light years ago….had to go to Mich Light when I could no longer buy it. Since then, I’ve switched to Mich Ultra (which I LOVE), and recently started drinking the 64 calorie “Becks Premier Light”. The only thing I don’t like about Beck’s is the price. $15-$16 per 12 pack is rather steep to me.
I will be very glad to see MGC Light in our supermarkets here in the south! Anxious to check it out.
July 8th, 2008 at 7:37 pm
We’re drinking it right now and we’re thinking we’ll have to beer bong it to get a good buzz. Or, we could buy some normal beer.

I usually drink Miller light but saw this at store today and it has less calories. It has a wonderfully light taste and seems to just flow down my neck. If you are looking for a real light beer give MGD Light 64 a try.
July 10th, 2008 at 6:34 pm
GOODBYE MGD LITE—–You screwed up! Hello Coors Light!
July 14th, 2008 at 6:17 pm
Hey this is pretty much one of the saddest days of my life. Not that I need the ronrico 151 or monarch vodka, but really Miller? This is from the company of fine products like mgd and miller light?? C’mon?!?! I feel like miller is taking a piss on me and calling it rain… so sad.
July 18th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
I enjoy the taste, and as someone who for medical reasons needs lower calories/carbs in my diet, this is awesome.
The ‘Old’ MGD Light did nothing for me.
This is an ultra-light beer with less alcohol and some good beer taste. It is what it is.
And for those of you typing about another brew, it’s Miller LITE, not light.
July 23rd, 2008 at 4:55 pm
Bravo Miller Brewing Company! Excellent light beer for non alcoholics. Plenty of hard stuff out there for those of you who need to get your “buzz”.
July 24th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
I have become a woman who is heavier because of the fact that I have been drinking beer(I used to drink Vodka regularley). I recently became a beer person. I was a huge Bud Light drinker then I heard about MGDL and started drinking it. This last Sunday (my only day off of work. I realized that I was not getting any affect from it. I draink 21 beers. I never felt a buzz.
July 31st, 2008 at 2:54 am
Both my wife and I drank MGD light for years, we can’t stand the weak flavor of the new 64. If you read the comments, the only ones who drink it are those with special problems. Get rid of Chill and replace it with 64 but bring my MGD light back. I have already switched brands!
August 3rd, 2008 at 12:44 am
I am a huge beer fan of all types and even brew my own. I agree with many of the comments-If you want a full bodied beer than don’t drink this. I will say it’s the best of the ultra low calorie beer I’ve tasted and it absolutely does not have an aftertaste. It’s extremely light and crisp. Perfect for a hot day.
August 7th, 2008 at 4:56 pm
I found my new beer! Good job Miller! Finally someone made a low calorie beer that taste good!! Good-Bye Budlight…. heelllloooo 64!! Now i can drink twice as much with no guilt!
August 11th, 2008 at 9:56 am
Tried it for the 1st time this past weekend and was pleasantly surprised. I think it’s easy when you’re in your 20’s to get on a soap box and demand a fuller tasting beer and not worry a lick about calories. ( But try that in your 50’s )
True it isn’t the “buzz” most of us are used to with 5% beers but what are we to expect? The upside is I didn’t feel at all bloated nor the slightest hangover come Sunday morning. Like everything in life, it’s a trade off. When you’re younger and burning calories left and right, then it’s no big deal, but when you get ‘promoted’ to a desk job, then yes, calories and diet become a factor. I for one like it and I’m glad it’s available in Oregon!

As a Diabetic and a beer lover, Miller 64 is super. Good going Miller Brewing Company.
August 25th, 2008 at 5:17 pm
It’s more like a refreshing near-beer. Not much alcohol of course, but tastes pleasant enough.
August 26th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
I think that it is a GREAT tasting beer, especially for having only 64 calories. I will never switch to another brand unless it makes me sick or something.
September 2nd, 2008 at 2:46 pm
It looks like the special needs people are the only ones that like it. Good luck with that segment Miller. I am super picky about my beer and when I switched to Miller MGD Light many years ago it was perfect for calories and alcohol content. Now that they dropped the alcohol down to 2.6% and did something to make it taste like brown water, I am done. The sad part is I went to the doctor thinking that something was wrong with me when they made the change-over to 64. I couldn’t taste or feel it. My friends make fun of it saying now it takes ‘64′ beers to feel anything. Even my super thin women friends can’t finish a bottle of it saying ‘what’s the point?’ Switch it back before it’s too late.

I work for GDC in AL, and we just got this in and I LOVE IT, it reminds me of home, Texas, here in AL we can’t get MGD light but we can get MGD light 64 and I just started this new diet and thought I was going to give up beer 4 ever and leave it up to Miller to answer my call, Thanks guys!!!!
September 10th, 2008 at 9:28 am
I love Mg64, however i am not sure it loves me, when i started drinking it i always felt like i had a full course meal after one, my stomach hasnt been same since, i am comsidering giveng it up, does anyone else notice this or have an answer?
September 12th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
I hadn’t bought MGD Light for a while, after switching to another last year. Then the other day, I got a taste for good ol’ MGD Light. I went to the store and bought a case of MGD Light 64, not realizing what Miller had done to emasculate its formerly great-tasting light beer. This stuff is awful! What’s in here besides water? I’ve had several of them, thinking maybe it was just me, but life’s way too short to spend any more of it drinking this poor excuse and pretending it’s beer! Who’d like the other 20?
September 14th, 2008 at 11:00 am
Please bring back my MGD light. It had been my favorite beer.
September 15th, 2008 at 8:11 pm
I bought 2 twelve packs for a family get together. When I was putting it in the cooler I popped one open…I had to strain to taste it. When I read the label and saw ‘not more than 3.2% alcohol’ I went back to the LIQUOR store and asked them why they were selling grocery store beer (I’m from Minnesota and they have 3.2 and strong beers). They checked it out and said that is what it is, sorry.
I brought it to the get together and appologized to everyone before we started drinking so they wouldn’t expect too much.
September 17th, 2008 at 6:50 am
I thought it was pretty good, especially for being only 64 calories.
September 18th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
Hellooooooooooo, wake up folks. This near bear is just that and it’s perfect. All the previous comments about no buzz and 2,9% is the whole point. This stuff is for someone who wants to cut back (and you ALL will, sooner or later) but not completely stop (no quitter here). Hey, have a Gray Goose to wind your clock and then cruize on this liquid. No falling down, drooling, and other impresive feats. Way to go Miller
September 18th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
I was a big MGD light drinker and proudly introduced new friends to the only rich full body light beer around. MGD 64 is nasty taste like a flat domestic NA beer. There are NA beers that have better flavor. Bring back my MGD light PLEEEASE!!!
September 19th, 2008 at 8:44 am
The flavor of MGD Light was very similar to the MGD. I enjoyed it and consumed responsibly. The MGD 64 has no similar taste to it’s full bold counter part. This is a call out to Miller, the people have spoken, several are moving on to a new label and MGD 64 is not the label. Bring MGD Light back. Keep 64 Ultra for the aimed market, just bring my beer back. Pretty pleeease!!!
September 21st, 2008 at 9:49 am
I have to say that I am a fan of the MGD, but this 64 doesnt do it for me. The taste is almost similar to carbonated water.Take this one back to formula!!!!
September 23rd, 2008 at 4:16 pm
Oh for crying out loud. It is 64 cal beer. If you want calories, taste and a quick buzz then drink something else. I think it is light and delivers what is advertised. I plan to drink it when it is hot hot and I want a cold beer. If I want to drink % then I will go get a vodka. If I want a heavy beer then I will get a Dark one.
Good Job Miller!
September 26th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
This beer may be the ideal after athletics beer. When you want to be social and have a few, but you know you’ll be driving later, its ideal. Ice cold, its refreshing (more water seems to make it faster to chill?)and for women who don’t metabolize alcohol as well as men, its wonderful.
September 26th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
I feel exactly the way most do…it is a 64 cal beer and low alcohol so don’t expect to get smashed on this beer unless you have plenty around. If you want to get a buzz…buy the regular…or as some have suggested have a shot or two while drinking. Anyway…cheers to all…it’s Friday!!!

September 26th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
I just found out about this beer and am drinking one now. It definetely has a light taste and no alcohol after taste. I’m excited it’s only 1 point on Weight Watchers but I’m hoping to catch a little buzz…maybe I need to drink on an empty stomach
I’m going to try Beck’s Light beer next!
September 27th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
Hey I tried it…not bad. Like the others said, if you’re looking for a buzz, then Miller Lite is a good choice. This MGD 64 is great if you are gonna drink all day at some function or if you’re pulling an all nighter. Good job! Miller. I am not always gonna buy it but for the calories it does the trick. Thanks.
October 2nd, 2008 at 8:15 am
I love this beer for just the purpose that it serves. This beer is not for the super big beer drinkers, it for dieter, light drinkers, and or people trying to cut back. You can still go to the store and buy the classics. So why complain? So enjoy your calories and carbs or drink up because MGD 64 isn’t a gut buster beer.
October 2nd, 2008 at 1:37 pm
Great idea Miller. I like a really light beer and this one is perfect for me.
October 5th, 2008 at 3:35 pm
My sister picked up a 12 pack of MGD 64 at the store, and she was telling me how great this is. I AGREE!! Only problem is finding this damn stuff. Wal-mart only carries it in a 6 pack and the guy told me how popular it has been, and thus the reason for no stock. I like this beer better than both Miller Lite and Michelob Ultra. GREAT job Miller!!
October 5th, 2008 at 7:30 pm
first sip….taste like Miller Lite, after that watery, however, the 64 calories is quite appealing. purchased a 18 pack today, and wonder if it is available in a 30 pack. I will continue to drink it due to the calorie count.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Awful will of a beer. I’ve been drinking regular MGD light for years. Loved it! But this stuff is awful and to replace a great light beer with this makes me mad.
Bring back regular MGD Light!!
