Mountain Dew Distortion
Sunday, May 23rd, 2010
Time for a new round of Dews! The ‘Dewmocracy’ program has returned, and brought us three new ways to Do The Dew. First up is ‘Mountain Dew Distortion,’ which is Dew heavily influenced by lime. I was hoping for something similar to the ‘Baja Blast’ product sold at Taco Bell, but that’s not what I got. That’s not to say I was disappointed though.
‘Distortion’ adds a significant lime kick to the base Mountain Dew, and provides a bit or tartness. The balance is great, and really improves on the base in my opinion (I’ve always found non diet Dew a little sweet for my tastes). The lime flavor also intensifies as your beverage loses it’s chill and carbonation.
If you’re looking for a comparison, and have a long memory, 7-Up produced a green, caffeinated beverage called dnL (7up upside down) a few years ago, and the flavors strongly resemble one another. That’s great for me, because dnL was one of my favorite beverages before it was pulled off the shelves.
I have no trouble recommending ‘Distortion’ to any citrus soda fan, it’s a great product and a major ‘Win!’ for Pepsi. Even if this doesn’t win the Dewmocracy contest, I hope they’ll find a way to keep it in the portfolio.

Not only do I write
My, it sure has been awhile since we saw any major extensions to the national soda brands. The last one that I remember was also a Dr. Pepper product, Diet Cherry Chocolate. If my memory serves me correctly, I said it was doomed to fail. Well, it failed. But major kudos for trying Doc!
Hop into the ‘Way Back’ machine, and you shall see that I wrote this review during the DEWmocracy campaign…
No secret that I am completely addicted to soda; I swear I’d go into withdrawal symptoms within hours if I was left without a source. The feel of the bubbles tickling my nose, the beautiful sound that the bottle makes when being opened, the slight jolt from the caffeine; all wonderful traits of soda that I would not want to live without.
This one wont be new to some of you, apparently it’s been around quite awhile in certain parts of the southeastern United States. I’ll be reviewing the regular sweetened, original version. There are diet, as well as cherry varities available as well, though not where this was found.
Saved the best for last. Third time is a charm. Blind squirrels find nuts sometimes. Pick any corny line you want, but this version of the ‘Dewmocracy’ is the best of the bunch by far. This is a drink I can see actually holding it’s own in the line of Mountain Dew products.
Number two in the ‘Dewmocracy’ series of limited edition Mountain Dews, we have ‘Revolution.’ ‘Wildberry’ fruit flavor, and ginseng. These Dews are part of a promotion; three will be released, a fan vote will be taken (and likely ignored), and one will be selected to be a regular part of the Mountain Dew line of beverages. Until it falls out of favor, anyway.
If not already in your favorite store’s cooler, three new flavors of Mountain Dew will be appearing there in relatively short order. Only one will find a permanent home, subject to a consumer vote. All three (well, 2 now) are in my fridge ready to be reviewed. First up? Supernova.
