Pumpkin Spice M&Ms

I really love fall season, and pumpkin spiced everything is one of my favorite parts about it. So when my fiance ordered some Pumpkin Spice M&Ms for me from Amazon I was uber excited.  I was expecting them to fill my mouth with pumpkin delight and have a little bit of spice to them.  I was wrong.  The M&Ms tasted nothing like pumpkin and very much like the traditional milk chocolate flavor they usually sport. There was a little bit of spice in the aftertaste but it is more akin to about an ounce of the heat you would find in Mexican chocolate.

But let’s give M&M some credit here. They did well with a few things. The M&Ms are about two or three times the size of a regular M&M which I really like.  You can really savor one without having to dump a handful in your mouth at once.  While I wouldn’t market them as “pumpkin spice” they still tasted great.  Even the color scheme was fall appropriate.

So what’s my consensus? I like the M&Ms but was sorrily let down by the lack of pumpkin flavoring.  So I’ll have to give you a “meh!” Sorry, M&Ms.

M&M’s White Chocolate Candy Corn

Sorry for the delay, we’ve been facing some logistical issues in getting new products to review. Hopefully that is all behind us now! Today, we’re introducing M&M’s White Chocolate Candy Corn. In a previous review, I suggested that a white chocolate M&M would probably be pretty tasty, and as it turns out, great minds think alike. Better yet, in a crowd of Halloween themed items, White Chocolate Candy Corn M&M’s are unique and original, not just the same old product dyed orange, black, and shaped like a pumpkin.

Original? Yes. Good? I enjoyed them a great deal. Aside from the color of the candy pieces, the traditional white, yellow, and orange, I really don’t taste anything that resembles the flavor of candy corn. But whatever. The white chocolate inside those sweet crunchy candy shells is deliciously rich and creamy. I suppose that the dominant flavors present in real candy corns are butter and sugar, and those are also the main ingredients of white chocolate, but we’re just splitting hairs there.

Did I immediately think of candy corn when I bit in to the first handful? No. Do I love them regardless? Yea! Grab a bag while you can, I doubt these will be around long considering their seasonal nature. With any luck though, they’ll emerge later under a different name and color scheme. Yum!

Raspberry M&M’s

Did a little research, and apparently these Raspberry M&M’s have been out for quite a while, but I just started seeing them pop up in my neck of the woods. So, they may not be new to you, but they are to me, so I’m going to review them anyway.

The idea of fruit flavored M&M’s was a bit strange to me, but none the less intriguing. I’ve had some high-end chocolates that were flavored, and pretty tasty, but I wasn’t sure something in a hot pink package zipper bag would be able to compare.

Most thankfully, my doubts were erased. The raspberry flavoring was subtle, so it was not much of a departure from your standard M&M. Just a really big M&M; the Raspberry M&M variety are roughly twice the size of a regular ‘M.’

My first impression was not that I was eating a raspberry flavored product. My initial thought was ‘chocolate covered cherries.’ Just not as intense. I’ll probably be all alone in thinking that, but I enjoy my own company.

For a 1.5 ounce package, you get hit with a 210 calorie penalty. It’s worth it to give them a try. Prices will vary by location; anywhere from $0.50 to $1.00. I give them a ‘Meh.’ They’re not bad, but I’ll probably never buy them again.

Pretzel M&M

Much like nearly every other M&M variety, the latest brand extension of M&M (that I know of), Pretzel M&M’s are incredibly addicting. That mix of the sweet candied shell, milk chocolate, and salty pretzel center is a superb combination; one that I hope really takes hold and stays on the market. Sadly, I have been seeing their blue packaging less and less.

My gut feeling though is that Pretzel M&M’s will be hanging around awhile. Fans such as myself just need to put our money where our mouth is, or we face the potential of Pretzel M&M’s going the way of the dinosaur. We certainly have plenty of package sizes available to choose from, as I have seen then in all major sizes, even the really big resealable bags. Good thing, as I can see a family going through these rather quickly.

Only negative I could find with Pretzel M&M’s was a higher concentration of ‘cracked’ candies, which really is not that big of a deal. Chipped Pretzel M&M’S taste just as yummy as the whole ones. For the foreseeable future, as long as these stay on store shelves, I’ll be purchasing these over peanut M&M’s. Though I did not check the label for allergy information, I think these may be a suitable substitute for peanut allergy suffers who would like a sweet/salty snack. Overall, Pretzel M&M’s are a total WIN! ‘Yea!’

M&M’s Chocolate Bar

M&M’S Chocolate Bar

M&M’s. Chocolate bar. Seems like a logical combination, assuming you enjoy cocoa confections. I’m a huge fan of M&M’s, and will try any product they put on the market without hesitation. Never really been left disappointed, M&M is one of the most solid brands in the candy industry.

So this bar? I’m not sure. It really isn’t all that special. What you have is a milk chocolate candy bar, with M&M Mini’s dispersed throughout. The Mini’s really only add a bit of texture; the candy coating doesn’t really make an appearance in the flavor profile. The chocolate bar and M&M’s are not different enough to notice any contrast.

I think the product would have been better on a different type of bar. White chocolate perhaps? Or maybe use another variety of the famous M’s. I think the slightly saltier peanut-butter version would have been a much better choice, and would have left me with a lot better taste in my mouth. Or at least a lot more memorable taste.

Going with a ‘Meh’ for the M&M’S Chocolate Bar. There is not anything wrong with it, it’s just underwhelming. When I see that logo, I’ve come to expect greatness, and all I received was a mediocre chocolate bar. To top it off, this will most definitely melt in your hands. Sorry M&Ms!
